1. Key Facts About Your Data
We respect your privacy. The "Golos" extension is designed to work as autonomously as possible.
We do not record, store, or send your voice or dictated text to our servers.
Speech recognition is performed using Google Chrome's built-in engine (Speech Recognition). Depending on browser settings, capabilities, and language, Chrome may process audio either locally or via its online services. Golos does not control this process and does not have its own recognition servers in this version.
2. Why Are Permissions Required?
When you install the extension, Chrome may warn you about granting certain permissions. Here is why they are needed:
-
Microphone:
Used only during dictation β when you start Golos via the button or hotkey. Required so Chrome can recognize your speech. -
Active Tab Access (activeTab):
Required so the extension can insert recognized text into the input field where your cursor is located. We do not read browsing history and do not analyze site content. -
Tabs Access (tabs):
Used for the operation of the service "engine" tab and message exchange between tabs during dictation. -
Storage:
Needed to save your settings (e.g., recognition language) and widget position. -
Context Menus (contextMenus):
Adds the "βοΈ Golos Settings" menu item for quick access to options. -
Audio/Sound (offscreen):
Used to play short sound signals (ON/OFF/ERROR) so you know when dictation has started or finished. -
Site Access (βAll sitesβ / <all_urls>):
Required so Golos can work on any website and insert text into allowed input fields. The extension does not read or send page content to our servers.
